OmniMD EMR in Large Ambulatory Practices

OmniMD, with its HIPPA compliant and CCHIT certified EMR and capability to provide one-stop solutions to all healthcare IT requirements, now has emerged as one of the leaders in healthcare IT sector. Since 1999 OmniMD has been providing quality solutions to healthcare service providers. Along with more than 600 small and medium healthcare practices, OmniMD has also provided solutions to many large practices across US.
OmniMD EMR can benefit all kind of practices raging from single physician practice to large practices with profound understanding of different needs of ambulatory practices, a user-friendly system environment, effective deployment process and efficient support team said Divan Dave CEO OmniMD.
According to the American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP), 30 percent of Ambulatory practices are already equipped with EMR system, with another 10 percent expected to adopt EMR by the end of 2007.
Previously large practices were reluctant to adopt Electronic medical records, but vendors like OmniMD have really made it convenient for them, by providing solutions, which exactly fit into their current workflow, and also by educating staff members and physicians with appropriate training. There are several compelling reasons for Large practices to adopt EMR, including mounting pressure to use the technology to boost patient safety. Other emerging trends include insurers offering pay-for-performance initiatives or financial incentives to compel or encourage doctors to use computerized records, growing sentiment among physicians that information technology can improve productivity and efficiency, and the fact that the technology has become better and less expensive.

It is difficult for an EMR vendor to implement system in a large practice as compared to that of small and medium sized practices, reason being complex workflow, large number of staff members and complicated communication channels. Large practices are more inclined towards omnimd because of its physician friendly modules, which can be easily integrated in to the current workflow of large ambulatory practices and allow them to make practice paperless without increasing any kind of complexity. Sunny Downstate with 220 physicians, Mobile Hyperbaric Center and DOCS Medical Group are few of large practices, have recently started taking advantages of OmniMD EMR

We would not attempt to be in this business without an electronic health record system, and for now OmniMD is getting the job done” Said Bill Price, IT Director Mobile Hyperbaric

OmniMD EMR Receives Prestigious CCHIT Certification for EMR

Tarrytown, NY–April 30, 2007 The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHITSM) announced today that Integrated Systems Management Inc. achieved certification for its product OmniMD EMR version 6.0.5. OmniMD EMR underwent inspections that demonstrated 100% compliance with CCHIT’s published criteria and received CCHIT CertifiedSM status for 2006 for:

Functionality (ability to create and manage electronic records for all patients, as well as automating workflow in a physician’s office),
Interoperability (a first step in the ability to receive and send electronic data to other entities such as laboratories), and

Security (ability to keep patients’ information safe).

The CCHIT Certified mark – a “seal of approval” for electronic health records (EHR) products – provides the first consensus-based, consistent benchmark for ambulatory products. By looking to products with the CCHIT Certified seal, physicians and other providers can be assured they are making a reliable investment and insurers and other payers know the products meet expected industry standards.

“The rapid acceptance of certification in the marketplace has far exceeded our expectations. Electronic health record companies have stepped up to the plate, ensuring that their products meet CCHIT criteria and actively promoting certification as a mark of excellence,” said Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD, CCHIT chairman. “The benefits of certification will increase as we continue to raise the standards for functionality, interoperability, and security.”

“CCHIT certification is a big milestone to achieve. And we are proud of our team who has shown great commitment in making the system comply with the highest standards available”, said Divan Dave, CEO, OmniMD. “One goal of CCHIT product certification is to reduce the risk of Healthcare IT investment by physicians and other providers. We believe certification will give physicians making a decision on an EMR purchase more confidence in OmniMD”.

CCHIT’s certification compliance criteria and its design for a certification inspection process have been thoroughly researched. The inspection process is based on real-life medical scenarios designed to test products rigorously against the clinical needs of providers and the quality and safety needs of healthcare consumers and payers. One script, for example, re-creates a scenario of an elderly man with poorly controlled diabetes, hypertension and other chronic conditions in order to test EHR functions such as potential adverse drug reactions, disease management and treatment plans.

Docs Medical Group Move Towards OmniMD EMR

Access of records for the multi location multi specialty practice, is easier for Dr. Sindhwani since the implementation of Electronic Medical Records. One can see the changes in the workflow of the clinic, now you will find nurses carrying notebook or some handheld devices in the hands, all the paper work and bundles of files have vanished from the clinic and they edit the records on notebooks. Lab tests done a week back have been integrated with EMR and are available right there on patient chart.

Dr. Rajeev Sindhwani Director Docs Medical Group said-“ OmniMD EMR has contributed immensely on both the physician office and administrative aspects of the Practice.

The business case for EMR is based not only on its ability to lower costs, increases revenue and improves the efficiency but also on its role as a tool to enhance the quality of services provided”

The whole practice is apparently on network, pulling up records from a centralized server and editing them on their respective notebooks. The OmniMD EMR has been integrated with the hospital information system and an interface has also been established with laboratory center.

Implementation of OmniMD Electronic medical record has reduced the amount of support services and not to mention reduction in the number and cost of errors. Doctor can now save his favorite prescription and need not to write again same for different patients; even more impressive is that, prescription can be sent directly to the local pharmacy automatically.

After the integration of OmniMD EMR, DMG’s patient also expressed their satisfaction, as now they don’t have to wait too long, and also not required to fill long paper form at the front desk.

And from Docs point of view OmniMD EMR has helped them in saving considerable amount. Saving from reduction in ‘no-shows’, accurate coding, faster documentation and billing, immediate saving result from elimination of real estate space required for proper records. Before the implementation of EMR doctor tend to miss some procedures which were performed on patient while billing, but OmniMD EMR has reduced this error up to a great extent by generating automatic billing and taking care of all ICD and CPT codes.

Hospitals and Practices are increasingly looking to information technology solutions to help deliver better quality patient care while containing costs. And Electronic Medical record companies are trying to develop best possible solution and services by keeping in mind the current trend of healthcare industry.

OmniMD chooses the MEDCIN® Terminology Engine for its Specialty EMR

OmniMD, a leading developer of HIPAA-compliant healthcare solutions, has announced the availability of MEDCIN® clinical engine in its Specialty Electronic Medical Records (EMR) product. MEDCIN® includes more than 270,000 clinical data elements covering symptoms, history, physical examination, tests, diagnoses and therapy. MEDCIN® has evolved over 26 years, in collaboration with physicians on staff from Cornell, Harvard, Johns Hopkins and other medical centers.

Driven by MEDCIN®, OmniMD’s Specialty EMR offers a core tool allowing healthcare providers to create and maintain electronic documentation of each patient encounter. Physicians can record patient data using an easy and intuitive point-and-click system to create a well-structured and comprehensive medical record. Users also have the flexibility to include their own custom data sets and templates into the point-and-click system.

Point-and-click EMR reduces documentation time by over 60%. Patient encounter documentation at the point of care eliminates delays due to manual documentation and medical errors due to illegible notes. A single-click search allows instant retrieval of electronic patient charts, encounter notes, patient vitals, history, review of systems, procedure notes and medical assessments and plans. Easy data capture and reporting helps the physician make informed medical decisions and creates data that can be used to generate clinically useful reports, for example: health maintenance reminders and disease management.

“Working in a high-pressure environment, it is often possible to overlook minute details in patient documentation. MEDCIN’s extensive clinical knowledge engine augments the capability of our EMR to capture and record even the most subtle medical details in the patient chart at the point of care itself. A point-and-click system ensures documentation of the highest standard, supporting the physician in medical decision-making and better coding.” says Mr. Divan Da’ve, CEO of OmniMD.

OmniMD EMR covers specialty specific and custom point-and-click templates for numerous specialties including Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology and OB/GYN, to name a few. In addition to MEDCIN®, OmniMD has also added Online Insurance Eligibility, Patient Reminder, and Integrated Medical Billing in its new release.

OmniMD introduces Patient Portal Services with its Integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Software

OmniMD, a New York based provider of HIPAA compliant healthcare practice solutions, has launched Practice Portal services for providers. The service will benefit physicians and patients alike, by offering two-way secure, communications to enhance the delivery of patient care.

Divan Da’ve, CEO of OmniMD says, “The aim of launching the Patient Portal is to bridge the gap between healthcare service providers and patients- by allowing physicians to offer high-level service and convenience to patients any time, anywhere through a secure medium. More than 60% of Americans use the Internet as of source of health information – patient portals will prove to be a great tool for preventive healthcare.”

According to a recent Harris Interactive/Wall Street Journal survey, 74% percent of respondents said they would like the ability to communicate with their physician via e-mail, but only 4% of respondents currently use the technology. 62% of respondents stated that the ability to communicate via e-mail with their physician would impact their physician choice “to some extent” or “a great deal.”
The portal allows patients to login securely and then request appointments, update or modify their records, obtain personalized medical information and view prescriptions. Portals are also being used refill prescriptions and lab-tests requests. Another feature is the use of e-mail for automated health alerts and patient-education.

By delivering information and services to patients in a variety of ways, a fully functional Patient Portal helps maintain a seamless communication between the patient and doctor while improving overall efficiency of patient care.

The Patient portal can be integrated with the OmniMD Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Software to provide a set of pre-defined functions for registered patients. These functions empower the patient with information available any time of the day, while at the same time reducing the workload of the practice or hospital staff. Many experts believe that Patient Portals will soon be an essential communication channel between patient and provider. In addition to enhancing online community presence, many practices with portals have reported substantial savings in staff time and administrative costs.

With the introduction of fully functional Patient Portal services, OmniMD is one of the few EMR vendors offering such a wide range of healthcare IT solutions and services – Integrated EMR and Practice Management Software, Patient Insurance Eligibility Check, Automated Patient Reminder, Medical Transcription services, Medical Billing System and Scanning and Indexing services.

With the increase in EMR adoption, patient portals will be the next step towards, enhanced care, and improvement in the patient-provider relationship and increased revenues.
